‘Hong Kong was the first foreign land I had ever visited. Hong Kong [in 1966] was an energetic spectacle of colonial architecture, chaotic shops and crowded apartments. I was especially shocked by the Kowloon Walled City, which was like a gigantic ant hill. I visited Hong Kong again after 35 years for an interior design project in 2001. The city had transformed into a place with the coexistence of analogue and digital spaces, as well as having modern, orderly skyscrapers and old, confusing neighbourhoods in close proximity—it was a creativity-inducing and pleasant environment. I am so happy to have the chance to exhibit in Hong Kong, my favourite city.‘   Umeda Masanori
