MARKUS BENESCH

(Munich, Germany, 1961)

Markus Benesch is a self-taught designer, inventor and artist. His unique language is expressed in spaces, products, materials, surfaces and objects. At the age of 18 he opened his own studio in Munich. The creation of totalizing experiences, which include the physical space—walls, ceilings, and floors—as well as the objects and clothes of the participants, became his distinctive hallmark. In 1988 he founded Markus Benesch Creates, a multidisciplinary design studio dedicated to creating whimsical products, surfaces, and interiors. He has presented his collections at the most important international trade fairs and has designed and designed numerous shops, hotels, and showrooms. He also collaborates with renowned design brands. His projects have been published in many editions dedicated to design, such as the International Design Yearbook. Benesch has held lectures and workshops as a Visiting Professor of Interior Design, Industrial Design, and Innovation Design at the ESAD École supérieure d’Art et de Design de Reims, and at the NABA Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, the IED Istituto Europeo di Design, and the Politecnico di Milano.
