Juan Ripollés’ world is compelling, immersed in that joyful Spanish tradition where light and colour perform like actors in the sinuous movements of dance. This painter and sculptor, throughout his artistic journey, has remained faithful to the theme of his Spain, of its characters – faithful to that world which is elegant, severe and motionless in time, to the rituals of its feasts and of its customs.
La Reina is the companion piece to El Rey, the queen to the king. Compared to the king who is friendly but dictating, the queen is more open, with both of her arms outstretched as if to welcome you with an equally friendly, whimsical face.
